There is an expectation that children and their grownups engage in their homework. Homework includes reading their phonics book, practising their tricky words, and their sounds. Here is a rough guide to the length of time homework would take, per activity.

  • Reading: 5 times a week, for 5 minutes (total of 25 minutes).
  • Tricky words/phonics: 10 minutes.
  • Spellings: 10 minutes.
Total amount: 45 minutes per week.
Please find below a list of websites that are reliable and that will provide a bank of ideas and resources for your child to access in order to continue with their learning and development should they wish to home.

To support your child in developing their fine motor control and their malleable skills, below is a recipe for playdough that never fails...

1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

2 teaspoons of Cream of Tartar

1 cup of water Food colouring

Recipe

Combine all ingredients, cook in the microwave 2 minutes at a time, stir thoroughly between each 'cook' until the dough pulls together and is no longer sticky.

Children can also practise the following

  • writing/spelling their name using their name card.
  • reading the tricky words ( there are more in their reading bag) and even spelling them.
